Siparila Oy strengthens its export position with acquisition by focusing on the production of high-quality, solid wood furniture
Siparila Oy has acquired Jannpuu Oy, a manufacturer of glue boards. With this acquisition, Siparila will concentrate furniture manufacturing in Kajaani to Jannpuu. The acquisition will enable Siparila to launch a new range of high-quality beds made of Finnish wood, with the aim of gaining a foothold in the American furniture market. All Siparila's contract furniture and components will also be manufactured in Kajaani.
Finnish furniture for new export markets
The Finnish furniture industry has suffered greatly from the recession in recent years and no new head openings for furniture made from Finnish wood have been made. "Demand for solid wood furniture is picking up again worldwide after a long period of mdf. The production of clear-lined furniture is still competitive in Finland. Also in the American market, high-quality and ecological solid wood furniture is making inroads and we intend to take advantage of this opportunity at Siparilä," says Juha Sojakka. Siparila's product range will also be expanded with glue boards for household use as a result of the acquisition.
Jannpuu Oy is one of the most efficient pine glue board manufacturers in the world. "For 23 years, we have been working with determination to produce glue board and furniture components. Now I can safely take my well-deserved retirement," says Jouko Heikkinen, Managing Director of Jannpuu Oy. Prior to the split, Jannpuu has mainly manufactured glue board components for export to the furniture industry with a turnover of around three million euros.
A family business seeking growth has turned its sights abroad in recent years. The acquisition will further strengthen Siparila's position in export markets. Until now, Siparila has mainly produced furniture for Germany. Now the focus is also on America, where Siparila is exporting not only panels but also furniture made from Finnish wood. In 2014, Siparila exported around EUR 6 million worth of wood products abroad.
