Home in a Shoe Box

Mikael Lanne and Emilia Ristola took on the challenging project of renovating an old shoe factory into a home for themselves. Often in renovation projects, the room layout is prefabricated, but in this project they had the option of knocking down all the partition walls, leaving only three load-bearing beams in place. A total of 6 replacement pallets of wall materials and flooring were removed. A new floor was poured, new partition walls were masoned and the structure was modernised from floor to ceiling.

To complement the painted surfaces in the home, wood was chosen to soften the interior design. The subtle sandy hueof the Vire paneladded softness alongside the black and white surfaces. The panel’s hidden-fastening design allowed for a beautiful, nail-free wood surface.
