Surface treatment of wood

Wood is a durable building material. Surface treatment can improve its properties, appearance, and intended use. As pioneers in timber construction, we strive to offer the right product for every building project.

Surface Treatments for Exterior Cladding

In industrial surface treatment, exterior cladding panels are painted immediately after planing. This process opens the surface barrier of the wood, allowing the wood's protective substances to be effectively absorbed. Coatings can be applied evenly over the cladding panel under factory conditions, where humidity and temperature are always constant. This improves the quality of the painting compared to outdoor painting. Additionally, thermal modification and fire protection further extend the application possibilities of the panels.

Nordic

nordic - midcoat
intermediate coat

Intermediate painting not only enhances the appearance of the building's facade during construction but also shields the panel from damage. It's important to note that a painted panel needs on-site maintenance within 18 months of installation.

nordic - basecoat
primed

Prioritize the protection of your wood with our industrially primed cladding, which provides adequate temporary protection and improves paint adhesion. Primed panels should be treated 2-3 times after installation to ensure long-lasting performance.

nordic - pure
in wood

The untreated wood panel has not undergone any industrial surface treatment. Moisture and contaminants can negatively impact an untreated wood surface. PURE panels are also available in a thermally modified version, which equips the wood to endure weathering without the need for industrial treatment.

Treatments for Interior Panels

The treatment of wood surfaces is a critical aspect of interior design, significantly enhancing both the visual appeal and longevity of the wood. Treated wood not only looks better but is also easier to maintain, resistant to UV damage, and protected from moisture. This makes it the ideal choice for various interior applications. Different treatment methods can be employed to bring out unique and desirable characteristics of the wood.

INTERIOR PANELS

OPAQUE TREATMENT

In a concealer, the natural grain pattern of the wood is hidden under the paint. This creates a beautiful, finished panel that can be installed immediately. There are several different shades to choose from for the topcoat. For example, KIILLE interior panels are opaque painted.

TRANSLUCENT TREATMENT

An audible water-based lacquer/ stain treatment gives the panel a water-coloured surface, under which the wood grain comes through beautifully. The acoustic treatment is very durable, yet looks natural on the panel's surface. For example, VIRE and USVA decorative panels have a sandy tone.

SAUNA TREATMENT

The panels can be factory finished with sauna protection, making the installation of the panels in the sauna quick and easy. Sauna protection is a water-based varnish treatment that gives the panel durable protection against moisture and dirt. For example, KASKI panels are sauna-protected.

Thermal Modification and Fire Protection for Wood

Enhance the durability and safety of your exterior and interior cladding panels with our advanced thermal modification and fire protection services. For products without these features, our sales department is ready to assist you in customizing your order to meet your specific requirements.

Thermal Modification

Experience the transformative power of thermal modification—a natural process that enhances wood without the use of chemicals. Heat-treated wood ensures lasting quality by increasing resistance to decay, weathering, and moisture absorption. At high temperatures, the wood takes on a beautiful appearance and emits a delightful characteristic scent. It's the perfect choice for exterior cladding, decking, home interiors, and luxurious saunas.

Fire Protection

Fire protection technology is expanding the possibilities for using wood indoors and outdoors. Fire-protected panels significantly enhance a building's fire resistance. By slowing down the burning process, the fire-retardant treatment allows for safe evacuation during a fire. Fire-retardant panels are top-rated wood building products with a Reaction to Fire rating B-s1, d0, allowing the use of wood in buildings with the highest fire rating of P1.
