The fire protection of the panels enables the flexible use of wood.
Fire Protection
Fire protection allows wood to be used more widely in indoor and outdoor applications as it increases the fire resistance of building panels. In case of a fire, the fire retardant treatment slows down the burning of the material, providing more time for evacuation. Almost all of Siparila's solid wood products can be supplied with fire protection, and some wide exterior cladding panels, made of glued raw material, can also be fire protected.
Siparila panels' fire protection treatment meets the requirements of the highest fire classification
All Siparila fire-resistant panels are factory-processed to meet the requirements of the highest fire rating. Fire-resistant panels are part of the highest fire rating for wood construction products. The Reaction to Fire rating, B-s1, d0 allows the use of wood in buildings of the highest fire class P1.
Buildings are classified into three categories according to fire safety regulations: P1, P2, and P3. Fire-resistant wooden materials can be used for cladding in timber-framed and precast concrete apartment buildings, as well as in public timber buildings such as nursing homes and schools.
Properties of fire-resistant wood:
- B = The product has little effect on the development of a fire.
- s1 = Smoke generation in case of fire is very low.
- d0 = No combustible particles or droplets are shed from the product.
Fire-resistant interior panels
Fire-resistant interior panels allow for beautiful and fire-safe surfaces in the interior.
Fire-resistant cladding panels
A fire-retardant treated façade is safe without compromising on appearance and durability.
Industrially applied fire protection ensures quality and durability
The fire protection treatment of wooden building products improves the wood's fire resistance properties. In the event of a fire, fire protection treatment forms a film on the wood's surface that foams under high temperatures. The foamed surface has good thermal insulation properties, which significantly slows down the wood's ignition.
High-quality fire protection treatment is conducted under carefully controlled industrial conditions. Industrial treatment enables the stabilization of temperature and humidity conditions in the environment and a precise definition of the application rate of the surface treatment agent. Adequate thickness of the fire barrier film ensures that the wooden building product meets the fire resistance requirements. The advantage of industrial treatment is the even application of the coating to all panel surfaces, which is impossible to achieve under site conditions.
Fire-resistant panels must always bear the CE marking. This marking indicates that an authorized research institute has approved the fire protection product used and that an external certifier has approved the factory responsible for carrying out the surface treatment. Siparila uses water-based fire retardants in its panels, and the application rates of these retardants are carefully monitored during the surface treatment process using weighing. Inspecta Kiwa conducts annual inspections of Siparila's fire protection process.
