Lapuan Kankurit Helsinki Store

Lapua's Kankurit Store & Studio is located in the historic Market Square between the Market Square and Senate Square - just a five-minute walk from the main railway station.

The store redesign was designed by Japanese architects Mana and Takashi Kobayashi, IMA Design. Mana and Takashi designed the Lapua Kankurei factory outlet and the Tokyo store. Lapuan Kankurit weaves northern design inspired by the pure and rugged nature of Finland. To counterbalance the freezing northern climate, Lapuan Kankururi's textiles offer warmth and softness.

The design of the new store was inspired by the Finnish forest and the wellbeing and care that the forest offers us. Forest bathing ( shinrin-yoku in Japanese) is nature therapy, where people have the opportunity to sense nature with all their senses; by touching, observing and conscious breathing. The birch wall surfaces in the shop bring nature close and visitors can feel the closeness of real wood.

Siparila's KOO2 interior panel was chosen as the form for the wood. Its minimalist and modern design brings out the natural beauty of wood. The panels' concealed fastenable shape allows for a smooth wooden surface without visible nail heads. The light birch surfaces and the beautiful textiles of Lapuan Kankurei are Finnishness at its best.
