Unique hotel complex at the top of Tahko mountain
Panorama Landscape Hotel, built on the forested slope of the Tahko mountain in Eastern Finland, offers travelers the opportunity to enjoy quality hotel accommodations, food, and relaxation in a spa. Siparila's interior panels perfectly met the project's objectives.
Panorama Landscape Hotel opened in November 2023 and combines a landscape hotel, a forest spa, and a high-quality restaurant. Located at the top of Tahko in the middle of the forest, it will offer visitors a unique landscape experience. The hotel complex consists of several buildings, as the landscape suites of different sizes are all buildings in their own right.
Panorama Landscape Hotel was designed by Sami Rintala, an architect and professor working in Norway. Rintala is one of the owners of Rintala Eggertsson Architects, an architectural practice specialising in the use of wood in construction.
"Panorama Landscape Hotel was a pretty perfect job for an architect. The most important thing in projects is the relationship between the client and the architect. On this project, it was easy to work with the client, as everyone wanted the same result," says Rintala.
Wooden panel improves the comfort and acoustics
According to Rintala, the materials used for the Panorama Landscape Hotel were chosen for their appearance and quality. Siparila supplied the project product Tripleblock panel in two different shades, which was used on the interior surfaces. The panel was used in the hotel's restaurant, all suites and the spa, where a heat-treated panel with good moisture resistance was installed.
"The grooved panels in different shades were a good solution. They do not reflect sound but absorb it and excessive light. We wanted the same material inside as outside, but with a smaller laths," says Rintala.
The colours of the Tripleblock panel were customised to match the hotel's interior. The product was colour tested to ensure that, for example, the lichen grey colour desired for the restaurant space was achieved in just the right way. According to Rintala, the colours of the panel achieved exactly the desired result.
Wood is not only durable and beautiful but also improves the acoustics of a room. The versatile properties of wood were also helpful for the Panorama Landscape Hotel, according to Rintala:
"The acoustic benefits of the wood panel are particularly evident in the spa, where we created a pleasant acoustic environment. The panel also does not reflect light, making the space softer and, in keeping with the spa's atmosphere, more shaded. The wood also smells strongly in the humid rooms thanks to the heat treatment, which adds to the sensory experience."
Smooth cooperation on a project product
The Tripleblock panel chosen for the project met the requirements of the site: the product looks good and provides the right stimulation to the senses, creating the desired atmosphere in the space. The Tripleblock panel format is a Siparila project product that can be used in a variety of ways, both indoors and outdoors.
"We work a lot with designers. When a designer has a vision, we try to customize a solution that fits their wishes," says Riikka Ruunaniemi, Siparila's Export Sales Manager.
Rintala was familiar with working with Siparila and said the cooperation has always been smooth. According to Rintala, Panorama Landscape Hotel was an exciting project that gradually evolved into its final version:
"The plan was changed several times as the business idea evolved, and the architecture was modified. In my experience, however, this is always good for the project because the result only improves when it changes. In the end, several ideas came together, and when the hotel opened, I felt that it was even better than we had expected."
