Tampere Kosmos

As Oy Vuorekssen Kosmos, located in Vuoreks in Tampere, is one of the largest and most modern wood city environments in Finland. Kosmos represents a new type of Scandinavian apartment building, combining the safety and excellent sound insulation of concrete construction with the warm atmosphere of wood construction. Kosmos consists of three blocks of flats and two loft buildings with a total of 132 apartments. As Oy Vuoreksen Kosmos offers apartments ranging from small studios to larger homes. Kosmos as a whole covers 4600 m².

The facades of Kosmos are clad in fire-resistant cladding panels. The fire protection of timber building products increases the fire resistance of the building. Fire-resistant cladding panels slow down the progress of a fire, giving more time for evacuation and fire-fighting in the event of a fire and minimising damage caused by fire. The Siparila SAFE exterior cladding panels used in Kosmos are the highest fire-rated (fire class: B-s1, d0), ultra-safe exterior cladding panels manufactured in the Myllykoski factory.

The facades of the cosmos are decorated with natural, audible tones. The building's façades have been brought to life by alternating shades between the different walls of the building. The light, cool, calm snow and the fox, which emphasises the warmth of the wood, combine to create an elegant ensemble. The dark tones used on the ceilings and balconies are matched in Kosmos by the pitch-toned grilles. The fire-resistant exterior cladding panels are industrially fully pre-painted, which speeds up the construction process. The concealed fixing of SAFE panels also provides the wood with excellent weather resistance, as the fixing marks are always hidden under the next panel, resulting in a nail-free façade. More than 30 000 metres of Finnish PEFC-certified spruce have been used in As Oy Vuorekssen Kosmos, which is equivalent to three full truckloads of full trailers. Calculated, the Kosmos wood cladding will absorb almost 85 tonnes of carbon dioxide during its life cycle.
