A fire-safe package without compromising on appearance

During autumn 2014, the 8-storey Puukuokka, the tallest wooden apartment building in Finland, was built in Kuokkala, Jyväskylä. Puukuokka was designed by architect Anssi Lassila from OOPEAA.

The exterior cladding of the building is made of Siparila's TOPCOAT® UTS 28×145 exterior cladding panel with vertical paneling. The pre-painted cladding panels saved on the overall construction costs, as there was no need to repaint the façade after installation. In-situ cladding also allows for a more spectacular finish, as the prefabricated nature of the cladding is eliminated, leaving the designer with more freedom to design the cladding.

The exterior cladding of the wooden deck was carried out by Siparila Woodworks installation service. The part-contracted façade is a cost-effective option for the developer, with the exterior cladding being manufactured and installed by the same contractor. The wooden façade is a fire-resistant unit, using TOPCOAT® UTS 28×145 fire-resistant cladding panels on the lowest floor. It achieves the highest fire class B-s1, d0.
