Home Shoebox - VIRE-panel interior design

Mikael Lanne and Emilia Ristola took on the challenging project of renovating an old shoe factory into a home for themselves. Often in renovation projects, the room layout is prefabricated, but in this project they had the option of knocking down all the partition walls, leaving only three load-bearing beams in place. A total of 6 replacement pallets of wall materials and flooring were removed. A new floor was poured, new partition walls were masoned and the structure was modernised from floor to ceiling.

In addition to the painted surfaces of the home, they wanted wood to soften the interior. The VIRE panel's audible sand tone was used to add softness to the black and white surfaces. The panel's concealed fixing shape allowed for a beautiful, nail-free wooden surface. In the master bedroom, PALA panels were used to decorate the bed headboard. The PALA panels were glued to the concrete wall. This saved space, as no additional reinforcement was needed as with traditional panels. A 505 mm long PALA panel was used for the fish-grate pattern. The interior of the sauna was designed to match the black surfaces of the house. The black surface of the HAAPA sauna panels was combined with thermal oak tiles to continue the dialogue between the black and warm-toned wood surfaces.
