Home Shoebox - VIRE-panel interior design

Mikael Lanne and Emilia Ristola took on a challenging project by renovating an old shoe factory into an apartment. In many renovation projects, the room division is ready, but in this project it was possible to knock down all the partitions and only three load-bearing beams were left in place. A total of 6 demountable pallets of wall materials and flooring were removed. A new floor was cast in the industrial hall, new partitions were laid and structures were modernised from floor to ceiling. In addition to the home's paintwork, wood was wanted to soften the interior. The shade of the translucent sand of the VIRE panel brought softness alongside the black and white surfaces. The hidden shape of the panel allowed for a beautiful, nail-free wooden surface. In the bedroom, the headboard was decorated with PALA panels. PALA panels were attached to a concrete wall by gluing. This saved space, as there was no need for extra bumps like with traditional panels. The herringbone pattern used a 505 mm long PALA panel. The interior of the sauna was intended to follow the black surfaces of the house. The black surface of the Haapa sauna panels was combined with thermal aspen benches, which continued the dialogue between black and warm-toned wooden surfaces.
