Oulu Origo heat-treated Kaski panels
Siparila's newly launched thermally modified KASKI spruce panel, made of Finnish spruce, was chosen for the surfaces of the sauna compartments in a high-rise apartment building. The ceilings are also made of the same heat-treated material.
The impressive-looking Origo is sure to be noticed
Origo in Oulu represents modern, upscale and easy living at its best. Instead of conventional solutions, Origo emphasizes uniqueness. For example, the use of doors and elevators is regulated by an intelligent system, and top-quality brands have been chosen to implement the homes.
The location right next to the train station makes it easier for the residents to move around. It also brings visibility to the elegant building: no one can overlook the 16-story Origo when arriving in the city. The building has 145 apartments and commercial premises located at street level.
The constructor of Origo is Oulun Rakennusteho Oy, who has been using Siparila's products on its various projects for over ten years. This time, cooperation took place in implementing the sauna sections of Origo's apartments.
The new KASKI interior panel solved the availability challenge
In the Origo project, the cooperation between Oulun Rakennusteho and Siparila began with solving a problem. There were challenges in the availability of wood material for the sauna, and waiting for it would have delayed the construction schedule. Siparila helped to find a better solution.
"The availability of alder, typically used for sauna decoration, was poor. We had to start thinking about ways to replace it, and after browsing through different options we got an interesting proposal from Siparila. They gave us model blocks of the new products, and we talked about material choices with our subcontractor who builds the sauna boards", says Tommi Mustaniemi, procurement manager of Oulun Rakennusteho.
The material chosen for the sauna surfaces and washroom ceilings was thermally modified KASKI spruce panel, which was added to the Siparila range in summer 2022. The panel has a brushed surface that emphasises the living appearance of the wood, and the natural, warm colour tone is created by the heat treatment.
Oulun Rakennusteho also chose thermally modified spruce as the material for the sauna boards. The material is ideal for the conditions of the sauna because thermal modification prevents cracking due to moisture.
Thanks to the selected materials and the quick delivery of the products, the construction project proceeded according to the planned schedule for the sauna sections. The hidden fastening system of the panels and the finished surface treatment also enable the smoothness of the installation phase and a high-quality, durable result.
Reliable deliveries and easy cooperation in every project
Origo is scheduled to be completed in May 2023, and its construction has already progressed to the interior phase.
"The interior work is about halfway – it is progressing on the 8th floor of the 16-story building. We have already done part of the sauna work, and installing Siparila's KASKI interior panels is underway," says Mustaniemi.
As in previous projects, Mustaniemi has been very satisfied with the products delivered by Siparila and the cooperation in general.
"Over the years, we have used many different Siparila interior and exterior cladding products in our projects. The products are top-notch, and the delivery reliability is outstanding. What Siparila promises, they always deliver. They also ensure not to promise too much. When they promise the products for week 10, they certainly arrive on week 10. The agreed prices also hold," Mustaniemi describes.
"Working with Siparila has been very easy, and everything has gone great because we play with open cards: we talk about things openly, and if there is a problem, Siparila takes care of it. The cooperation is straight and simple," Mustaniemi sums up.
