Light birch is the basic element of Nordic interior design. Birch is famous for the furniture designed by Alvar Aalto, which used a lot of birch plywood. Birch can also be used for home decoration beyond furniture. Birch as a material is light in colour and almost completely free of knots. The surface of birch panels is therefore very uniform compared to, for example, pine panels. Birch is also a tough and durable material. Birch panels can be surface treated to make them translucent or painted to make them opaque. If you want to avoid the yellowing characteristic of wood, you should add a hint of white to the shades to slow down the yellowing effect of UV light.

Knockout Panel

Designed by interior architect Kari Lappalainen, KOO panels are well suited to be made of birch. The KOO panels have a playful pattern of grooves on their surface, which give the wood a rhomboidal effect. However, KOO panels are quicker to install than strips and their shape allows them to be hidden by nailing. KOO panels come in three different shapes; flat KOO, single-panel KOO2 and three-panel KOO4, which can also be easily combined on the same surface. KOO panels are 21 mm thick and 95 mm wide interior panels that can be used as ceiling panels and wall panels. Find out more about KOO panels here

VIRE panel

The three-dimensional shape of the VIRE panel invites you to touch the surface of the wood. The roots of the birch are beautifully revealed and the surface comes alive with light. The VIRE panel is therefore a great decorative panel if you want to play with light and shadows. VIRE can be installed vertically or horizontally and is suitable for both bedroom and living room interiors. VIRE is designed by Ristomatti Ratia. If you use VIRE as a ceiling panel, remember to install the male point of the panel facing the direction of the view. Read more about VIRE

PALA panel

The PALA panel is ideal for the decorator who wants to experiment with different interior design ideas. The panels are only 1005mm and 505mm long and can be used to create a herringbone pattern as well as a brick wall-like barn. PALA panels do not require nails and a hammer to fix, but are fixed to the wall by gluing. PALA panels can be installed either vertically or horizontally. PALA panels can be used as wall panels and ceiling panels. The only thing to remember is that the panel must not be glued to a wall where screed has been used.
